Writie Talkie is a combination of walkie talkie and a local wireless text messenger (wondering why this combo? just read ahead).
Thanks to the peer-to-peer connection via Bluetooth(#1), you can do wireless voice chat(#2) or send text message directly between two iPhones or iPod touch. Try launching Writie Talkie, e.g. in a cafe, and see if someone else nearby might also be looking for a chat via Writie Talkie.... who knows...

Why combining voice and text? Here are some situation that may explain:
1) Youre in the library (or in the meeting room) and she/hes waiting outside? Start Writie Talkie, put on your earphone and hear she/him talking to you. Send her/him a text message in return!
2) Both in a boring meeting/classroom and desperately wanting to chat with your colleague/friend? Or how about some "rare" situation like continuing a "chat" with someone "next door" in the toilet without letting others know? Just use the instant messenger feature on Writie Talkie!

How do you get the talk feature to work?? I got it to work and it works great!!!!! Wonderful app
Not worth it, not really usefull, needs a lot of improvements!
I just got this app. I think its a great idea to be able to use BOTH wifi & bluetooth. I find that ppl are ALWAYS complaining in review about how a similar app would be better if it was bluetooth, or better if it were wifi, & i researched these types of apps to find one that would do what I need. I am impressed. Although as I have a iTouch 3G, I wonder if another person needs this same app to be able to use this. I assume so, but if anyone knows itd be helpful as I have several friends with iPods/iPhones in my complex so its nice to be able to do either & even doing my observation work in a larger setting like school or at a bar observing my subjects for my study with my team, its nice to have a way to communicate eaily back & forth accross a larger building etc. But I havent tried this yet, so I may add another review. I need to know if my entire research team needs this same app out in the field to be able to use it between several ppl. Also can we comminicate with more than one person at a time? If I need to txt msg my team member in the back, can I change the screen to minimize that convo without making it disappear & then also be talking live to another member on my far right while txting the 1st member or else at least switch back & forth without either loosing the txt convo nor miss any of the voice chat? I would be interested to know. I would like to integrate this app for use in the field with paranormal investigation & a field study for psychology where we are following several test subjects to record their daily social interactions with others. This seems like a WONDERFULL app for these real life applications, so anyone else with this app who has info on ways to do these things effectively so I can show my teams. And also if these arent possible with the app, then they are of course my suggestions for the future updates! I LOVE all of the new voice apps for the mics on the new iTouch 3G/iPhone OS!!! I look forward to the future uses for this app! Stranded on the street with a broken down car & need help & are near a cafe or store with wifi...bored in class or need to get notes or help from a classmate without disturbing the class...telling you team member to follow "subject B" as theyre walking out the door cuz youre tied up with "subject A"...see a cute boy sitting in a cafe on his iPhone? the uses are endless. (but I would like some help on using it for the above purposes Im a bit fuzzy on!) God Bless & kudos for a great idea integrating 2 things all people want on their iWhatevers with just one app!
This worked great on the first try! We were worried based on some other reviews, but it worked great... no problems at all... For upgrade, would request option for beep when text comes in and also a little more room for reading text (e.g. a few more lines). Thanks for great app.
